Virginia, MN

St. Louis County YIA, along with the Virginia school district, once again participated in Kids Voting 2018. This project was meant to educate young people on the importance of voting, and to create an authentic voting experience. Kids Voting consisted of over 50 student and community volunteers. High school students had a poster contest and assembly with elected officials as guest speakers. Students were given voting lessons, assistance with registration, reminders, and all grade winners were rewarded with an ice cream party. All students were pre-registered, and voted in actual precincts where their parents vote. Open enrolled students filled out absentee ballots in school. 57.22% of district students voted, representing 943 out of 1648 students
